Film Adds To Awards

The French film, “La Guerre Est Finie” (The War Is Over) added to its already imposing list of awards by being named top foreign film of 1967 by the independent film importers and distributors of America. Alain Resnais, director of the drama about an ageing Spanish Communist revolutionary, was named best director, and its star, Yves Montand, best actor. The film has already been selected by the New York film critics’ circle, one of the
two main groups of United States film reviewers, and was placed in the year’s top 10 selections by six leading American newspapers and magazines. “Ulysses,” the British-made screen adaptation of James Joyce’s novel of the same title, was chosen as the best foreign film in the English language. Other awards for Britain were Dame Edith Evans’s nomination for best actress for her role in “The Whisperers” and Peter Watkins’s "The War Game * as top documentary of 1967.
