If R S. J. Weston, probably the only former New Zealand Rugby League representative to become an international Rugby Union referee, died in Kamo, North Auckland, recently. Mr Weston toured Australia with the 1911 Kiwis and 19 years later controlled the Rugby match between the British Isles and Waikato at Hamilton. He was the first referee from North Auckland to gain sueh an appointment. A former president of the North Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association and the province’s first sole selector in 1920, Mr Weston was 78 when he died. His brother, L. Weston, was North Auckland’s first captain.
