SOLDIER’S HAIR
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA.) SYDNEY, January 23. The Australian Army has abandoned the old-fashioned short back and sides haircut traditionally given to every new recruit. The news came this week in the form of an instruction from the adjutant-general. Major A. L. McDonald. The instruction gives individual commanders discretion on the length of hair and emphasises that soldiers should not be forced to submit to shearing to a standard length. The director of army public relations, Mr C. A. Nicol, said: “Soldiers will now be able to wear their hair a little longer and, 1 imagine, with a little more individual style.”
