Tall Pots Ahead

The Christchurch potter Michael Trumic plans to make some very big pots in the next two months while working in Barry Brickell’s studio in the Coromandel bush. “Barry has a much bigger kiln that I have, so I want to make some really big pots while I’m working with him,” Trumic said before going north last week. In his own kiln he can fire pots up to 2ft in height. Brickell’s kiln is “nearly as itall as a chimney” and has

room for pots of gigantic dimensions. “I might even make a pot as big as myself,” added Trumic, who is 6ft 2in. Trumic is consulting other North Island potters on his trip, made with the assistance Of a Queen Elizabeth II Arts' Council bursary. The award will also assist him to go to, Australia in April to work and study with other potters for three months. Trumic has prepared a small display of pottery for exhibition at Several Arts during the Pan Pacific Arts Festival.
