Mapping Of Cave
Measurements and compass bearings to allow the mapping of the Broken River cave near the Craigieburn skifields were taken during the weekend. The cave is the only major limestone cave in Canterbury. It has been known for almost a century and is easily entered. The mapping party—Mr A. Watson, a former president of the New Zealand Speleological Society, Miss S. Watson, a member of the society and of the Hamilton Tomo Group, and Messrs C. Anderson and A. Watson—spent about five hours taking measurements. Copies of the map will be made for society members and other organisations.
