Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Produce markets in Christchurch yesterday were oversupplied with cucumbers, most of which came from Nelson. They sold from 20c to 30c a case. Other salad ingredients were in heavy supply, among them lettuces at 40c to 31.20. a case, radishes at 20c to 30c a dozen bunches, spring onions at 40c to 60c a dozen bunches, white celery to 60c a case, and Utah celery to SOc a case. Tomatoes were available at 10c to 20c a pound and beetroot to 60c a dozen bunches. Other prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers' Association are: Marrows. —40c to SOc a case. Silver Beet.—sl to $l.lO a case. Pumpkins.—3l to 13 a case. Cabbages.—SOc to $1.60 a case. Carrots.—North Island, to $2.50 a bag; Oamaru, 31.00 a case. Cauliflowers. —SOc to $3.20 a case. Onions. —To $2 a bag. Parsnips.—sl.so a case. Swedes. —SOc a box. Potatoes.—To $l.BO a, case. Kumeras.—s2 a sugar bag. Parsley.—Bc a bunch (heavy supply). French Beans.—loc to lie a pound. Runner Beans. —20c to 30c a pound. Spinach.—sl.6s a case. Sweet Corn.—9sc a tray. Rhubarb.—sl.2o a case. Peaches. —Case, $1 to $1.50; tray, SOc to $l.lO. Plums. —Cooking, 60c to $1 a case; dessert, to $3 a case. Apricots.—Case, $1 to $1.30; tray, $1 to $1.40. Greengages.—To $1.40 a quarter case. Nectarines.—To $3 a case. Grapefruit.—To $5 a case.
