Control Of Racing
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. "Sharp practices have no place in racing and it ip my view that these should be ruthlessly stamped out,” Mr R. A. Whyte said at the opening session of th? Seventh Asian Racing Conference in Wellington yesterday. Mr Whyte, the president of the New Zealand Racing Conference, had just been elected chairman of the conference, succeeding General Kris Sivara, of Thailand. Genera] SivAra and Mr G. Shone. of Japan, were elected vice-chairmen. Mr Whyte, in a brief acceptance speech before he adjourned the conference until tomorrow morning, said he felt "sharp practices" should be treated with penalties which would deter prospective wrongdoers. He said that racing depended on public support. All administrators must ensure that there was adequate and impartial control, he said. After thanking General Sivara and the Maharaja of Burdwan for their efforts on behalf of the conference in previous years, Mr Whyte welcomed which is attending the conference for the first time.
