Pleasing Gallop By Serena At Awapuni

"Ths Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Serena has not raced for a month but she looked in fine shape at Awapuni this morning tn her semi-final trial for the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. Other Wellington runners to please included Palamos and Aristoc. Ina Court also made good time. On the plough, which was deep and not fast, Serena finished just ahead of Gymkhana—whose saddle slipped forward—at the end of half a mile in 51 3-ssec. the last three in 39 l-ssec. Serena was going easily. She will face a difficult task this week. Gymkhana has improved and may not be out of it in the Telegraph Handicap. Sail Away and Tarim worked well in separate trials. Sail Away went alone over a mile in imin 47 3-ssec.. the last three in 38sec. He finished strongly but does not appeal as a likely

cup winner. Neither does Tarim, which may be a doubtful starter. He is in the Ashhurst Cup on Monday. Tarim is usually lazy in training but he worked better than ever yesterday to shade Side Show at the end of six furlongs in Imin ISsec, the last three in 39 l-ssec. Ina Court may be an improver for the Camp Intermediate Handicap. Yesterday she worked pleasingly over five furlongs in Imin 3sec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Gold Mint and Jazz were tofiether at the end of six furongs in Imin 18sec, the last three in 40 l-ssec. They will race in the Anniversary Handicap. Supa took Imin 36sec for an easy seven furlongs in prepara tion for the Wellington Cup. She ran her last three furlongs in 40sec. On the course proper Palamos was always doing better than Both Ways’s half-brother, Myth Mate, when they ran five furlongs in Imin 6 3-ssec, the last three in 39 2-ssec. Palamos has pleased lately, but will face a difficult assignment in the Wellington Stakes.
