Fire Delays Traffic
Rush-hour traffic in Moorhouse Avenue last evening was delayed while firemen put out a fire beneath a chemical bath at the premises of J. Mercer and Sons, Ltd. Moorhouse Avenue. Firemen had to use breathing apparatus to get at the seat of the fire and while ventilating the building after the fire had been put out. East-bound traffic in Moorhouse Avenue banked up beyond the western end of the Colombo Street bridge. West-bound traffic and Manchester Street traffic banked up to a lesser extent. City Council traffic officers quickly cleared the jam.
