Mr Kirk In The U.K.

Sir, —New Zealand was illserved by its itinerant Leader of the Opposition when he declined a 8.8. C. opportunity to place an obscure New Zealand on the map last night for millions of televiewers in “Panorama,” their current affairs programme. His excuse, a prior engagement to talk on the underdeveloped countries in Glasgow is extraordinary since New Zealand itself is one of them. Even if political leaders do not prefer appearance on television, they should travel prepared to face up to them, and studios generally have a make-up box to help them freshen up.— Yours, etc., A. B. CEDARIAN. January 16, 1968.
