Students from Australia, New Zealand and Japan, ending their first JapaneseAustralasian Student Conference in Tokyo noted that friendly relations among their countries could help keep peace in South-East Asia, a Japanese spokesman said Eight representatives from a group of about 35 Australian and New Zealand students took part in a one-day panel discussion on what should be done to further JapaneseAustralasian relations and to promote world peace, the spokesman said. The group, led by Mr Tom Harvey, a graduate of New South Wales University, is visiting Japan under a student exchange project. “If we can show that the three countries with such different historical backgrounds can live together as friendly neighbours, we will be setting a valuable example,” the spokesman quoted the statement at the end of the conference as saying.
