Fewer Cars On Roads
' Light holiday traffic was reported by officers of the Transport Department in Christchurch yesterday, compared with the busy day experienced on Tuesday.. The most prevalent offences were exceeding 30 miles an hour in built-up areas, particularly in the Waimairi County, faulty overtaking, following too closely at speed, and failing to keep to the left. Traffic-offence notices were issued to 210 drivers during the day, and 110 drivers were given written warnings. One driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and keys were taken from another five. Until 7 p.m. only one accident involving injury had been reported by the department.
