High-Protein Maize
Pig-breeding trials at Purdue University in the United States, where highprotein maize was compared with other foods, were the subject of a report in the 8.8. C. World Service programme, “The Farming World," by John Newell. He said that if the high protein “opaque-2” maize could be produced with a constant protein quality, especially constant in the essential amino acids —lysine and tryptophan —then the requirements for soya bean meal in balanced pigs’ rations would be greatly reduced.
