Man Charged After Stabbing
(Neto Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA,- December 22. A remand in custody to appear in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court on January 2 was ordered when Larry Edward Hammond, aged 21, married, a postman, of Henderson, appeared in the Rotorua Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of attempted murder.
Hammond, who appeared before Mr B. J. Reeder and Mrs P. A. Graves, Justices of the Peace, was charged with attempting to murder lan Arthur Kemp, aged 21, a labourer, of Atiamuri, at Atiamuri, yesterday.
Mr A. P. Jesson, chief detective at Rotorua, asked for the remand for Hammond who was not represented by counsel.
Hammond was in an unkempt condition‘when he appeared in the dock handcuffed to a constable.
Hammond and a teen-age girl were found this morning by police in scrub off the main highway, south of the Ohakuri hydro turn-off. Mr Kemp, who suffered multiple stab wounds, is in the Rotorua Hospital. His condition is reported to be serious, but improving.
