TRIP FOR MR KIRK
Six Weeks Overseas
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) will leave next month for a 43-day trip to America, Britain, Europe, and Vietnam, In Scotland he will stay with the former Gover-nor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson). Mr Kirk, who will be in Britain for 17 days, will also be a guest of the British Labour Party in London. He will leave on January 6, his forty-fifth birthday. “The trip will mainly be a matter of going and seeing, looking and learning,” Mr Kirk said.
“I hope to meet Ministers of the British Government as well as members of the Opposition, and would very much like to meet the Prime Minister, but nothing has been arranged officially so far,” he said. In England, Mr Kirk will visit decentralised areas of industry and a container port and have talks with officials on trade. He will also visit Brussels and Bonn and spend three or four days in Israel. During the four or five days he will be in Vietnam, Mr Kirk will visit New Zealand troops and the New Zealand medical unit as well as study the problem of refugees.
