Hawke Bowls With Zest

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) BRISBANE.

South Australia's test reject, N. J. Hawke, bowled with much of his old zest on the first day of the Sheffield Shield cricket match with Queensland yesterday.

Hawke took only two for 55, but on a rain-affected pitch he had many of the batsmen in trouble. Hawke toured South Africa with the last Australian team- but was dropped for the first two tests in the series with India. The last session of play was disastrous for Queensland. It slumped from 127 for two at tea to be 212 for seven at stumps.

Scores: Queensland 212/7 (R. Crane 6. R. Parker 54. P. Burge 43: N. Hawke 2/55, A. Frost 2/59, A. Mallett 2/34).

Schools' Cricket. Waikato Schools beat the touring Australian schoolboy team on the first innings at Hamilton yesterday. Scores: Waikato 180 and 117/8 dex., Australia 147.
