Hercules Visit Last For Three Months
(New Zealand Press Association) SCOTT BASE, December 19. The crew of a United States Hercules carrying 40001 b of resupply cargo will be the only outsiders members of the major New Zealand field expedition will see for three months.
The Hercules will land ; later this week on an unprepared snow surface at Leap Year Glacier, about 400 miles north of Scott Base, and will leave to return to New Zealand 30 minutes later. The six members of the New Zealand field party are now working in an area east of the Upper Rennick Glacier, Victoria Land. The field leader. Mr D. G. Massam, of Auckland, has
asked for a replacement motor toboggan, another Nansen man-hauling sledge, engine spares, quantities of food, fuel and clothing. In addition, the men will receive about 1501 b of mail. In a radio message, Mr Massam said everything was going well and the geologists in the party were very pleased with the progress they had made.
