Grand Round At Russley

A 17-year-old schoolboy, P. K. Cleland, had one of the finest rounds of golf played by an amateur at Russley when he turned in a score of 67, six under scratch, last week-end.

Cleland was out in 34, three under the card, and back in 33, also three under. He hit the ball accurately, and putted brilliantly, scoring eight birdies in the round. He dropped a shot at the short seventh, where he missed the green, and had a ball out of bounds from the sixteenth tee, but still managed to get down in six to drop only one stroke there.

Cleland, a regular member of the successful Russley team in the Woodward Cup competition, will be lost soon to Canterbury golf. Next year he will be in Auckland. Cleland is on a handicap of one at present, but his brilliant 67 may very well lead to him leaving Christchurch as a scratch player.
