Move Against Shoplifters

SYDNEY, December 12.
A special police shoplifters’ squad has begun duty in shops and stores in Melbourne in a: bid to catch customers who try to get their Christmas presents free.
Members of the squad, in plain clothes, are mingling with crowds in the city’s largest shops as the Christmas buying rush gathers pace. Retailers say that shoplifters turn out in force during the Christmas period, and *redict that mon than 1500,000 worth of goods will isve been stolen in Six weeks by the time store doors close on December 23. -
