U.S.-VIET CONTACTS
Report About N.L.F. Denied (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, Dec. 3. The United States Embassy denied reports on Friday that it had been dealing with the Viet Cong, without telling the South Vietnamese Government about it.
One such report, from wellinformed sources, said a meeting between the U.S. ambassador, Mr Ellsworth Bunker and a high-ranking representative of the Viet Cong’s National Liberation Front, was thwarted when South Vietnamese police arrested the Viet Cong emissary. A Saigon newspaper said the meeting was arranged by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.1.A.) without letting the South Vietnamese Government know about it.
