From Pole With Rod

An American meteorologiet has just apent 13 months at the AmundsenScott South Pole Station, and although his primary motive was scientific, he had a second reason—to spend time trout fishing in New Zealand afterwards.

He is Mr J. Plankinton, of the United States Weather Bureau. In Christchurch yesterday he said New Zealand was known among fishermen “in the know” to be one

of the three best spots in the world for trout fishing. The other two were South America and northern Canada.

“I am remaining In New Zealand until December 21 and for most of that time I’ll be seeing if what they say about the trout in New Zealand is real,” he said.

With Mr Plankinton on his fishing tour will be Mrs Plankinton, who flew to Christchurch from the United States to join him.
