Teachers’ Graduation Ceremony

A code of three R’s for teachers—responsibility to the pupils in the teacher’s charge, responsibility to oneself, and responsibility to one’s colleagues—was given to newly - graduated teachers on Friday night by Miss M. P. Stevenson, headmistress of Avonside Girls’ High School. Miss Stevenson was the guest speaker at the Christchurch ceremony of .the Canterbury education district annual leathers graduation ceremony, held in the Civic Theatre last night Miss Stevenson said that the trust placed by pupils in their teacher was not to be trifled with, and that teachers should endeavour to do everything within their scope to justify that trust. Other speakers at the ceremony included the Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Manning), the chairman of the Canterbury Education Board (Mr A. S. Murray), the president of the North Canterbury branch of the Educational Institute (Miss B. B. Evans), the district senior inspector of schools (Mr B. J. Wilson), the superintendent of education, southern regional office (Mr S. S. P.

Hamilton), and the principal of Christchurch Teachers’ College (Mr G. Guy). Mr M. G. Watson, the inspector responsible for the training of probationary teachers, presented the graduates.
