Easy Wins In Softball
In th* early wemen’s suftball match played at Bnpllsh Faring Monawal A, by adapting Itaelf well to th* damp conditions gained an easy win over Avon. Monowfii B scored a welldeserved win over Spreydon in the other senior match. Results:Mopowal B U, Spreydon 3; Menewal A 2?, Aven 2. Monowai B v. Spreydon . Five runs in. its first innings gave Monowai B a flying start and although it found runs harder to score in the other innings, it still won the match easily. In the last innings Monowai B led by six runs but a home run by A. Phillips put the issue beyond doubt. Spreydon scored three runs in the first three innings but tighter fielding by Monowai kept it scoreless for the rest of the match. For Monowai B, A. Phillips, E. Weakly and L. Woodhead fielded well and Phillips took the batting honours. Avon v. Monowai A The Avon pitchers had difficulty in handling the wet ball early in the match and powerful Monowai batting took full advantage of the lack of control. Eight runs were scored in the first innings, three in the second and 16 in the fifth innings to give Monowai an unbeatable lead. Th* Monowai pitcher, M. Eaton, gave a skilful display in the difficult conditions and B. Clarke worked hard in the field for Avon. Other results: Second Grade.—Kaiapoi 14, Vanguard 8: Western Suburbs 18, Monowai 7; Christchurch West 20, Wigram 16.
