Pursuit Urged By Thieu
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright! DALAT (South Vietnam), December 3. President Nguyen Van Thieu advocated yesterday that South Vietnamese troops should cross into neutral Cambodia in pursuit of fleeing Viet Cong. He told correspondents he knew the Viet Cong had established many bases within the borders of South Vietnam’s western neighbour and was using them as sanctuaries. The President said?*! advocate for the South Vietnamese forpes the power to pursue and attack inside Cambodia during battles with the Viet Cong.”
He said that this only applied to continuing battles and that he did not believe Government troops should mount operations in Cambodia.
The President said he also believed South Vietnamese troops had the right to fire across the Cambodian border when fired upon by the Viet Cong from within Cambodia. “Many times,” President Thieu said, “the Viet Cong have launched attacks from Cambodia and, after the battle, returned to Cambodia again.”
