Yacht In Unusual Setting

TJESIDENTS on either side of the tree-lined Heathcote River,- bordered by Clarendon Terrace and Richardson Terrace, saw an unusual sight last Saturday. A tall-masted, lift fibreglass Moth, skilfully handled by a youth, was tacking in a seamanlike manner up and down the river’s confined space, framed by leafy branches and bordered by newly-cut grassy banks. The young yachtsman was a 15-year-old Linwood High School pupil, Harley Kerr, of Silvester Street, Woolston. His craft is six weeks old.

Although the hull was rigged the craft himself and will sail her on the estuary.

A member of the Christchurch Yacht Club, Harley previously owned a smaller yacht. People are used to

seeing canoes, lilos, ducks, driftweeds and logs but a sight such as this was rare and appealing.
