DEARER OILS

(N.Z. Pres, Association)

WELLINGTON, Dec. 1.

Price increases for a wide range of petroleum products were announced by the oil industry today. A statement released by the industry said the increases were the direct result of the devaluation of New Zealand currency and covered only the additional exchange costs the industry was incurring in payments for imports. Kerosene, home heating oil, mineral turpentine and most solvents have increased by 2c a gallon. Lubricants have increased by 8c a gallon and most grades of aviation fuel have gone up by 3c a gallon. The price of bitumen will increase by $1.50 per ton. No increases are announced at present for petrol, fuel oil or gas oil, because these prices are subject to review by the Government.
