CATHEDRAL TREE IN TREACLE

This year for the first time the Christchurch Cathedral Christmas tree which will be brought into the Cathedral on Tuesday, will be planted in treacle to help it retain its colour and moisture. The tree will be dedicated by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill) at 7.30 p.m. on December 8. Dean Underhill said that it was hoped that the president of the North Canterbury brane*’ of the Save the Children Fund (Miss M. G. Havelaar) would attend the service. It was also hoped to have bellringers from the Cathedral with their handbells. Gifts from the tree will be given to the Save the Children Fund.
