LENINGRAD STREET SCENE.—Saturday afternoon shoppers in Leningrad, northern Russia. The residents here appeared better dressed and more prosperous than in some other cities and there was a greater variety of goods in the shops. An industrial and shipbuilding centre, Leningrad is the second largest city in the U.S.S.R. with a population of 3.6 million. It was founded in 1703 and is a former capital of Russia when it was known at St Petersburg.
