(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BELGRADE, Dec. 1. A mighty earthquake struck along the Jugoslav - Albanian frontier early yesterday, shattering most of one city and
leaving thousands of people homeless.
Official reports from the Jugoslav news agency, Tanjug, and the Albanian news agency, Ata, said at least 18 persons were killed and 174 injured, many of them seriously. Tanjug reported seven bodies pulled from the rubble of Debar and other communities around the earthquake centre and 40 injured. Ata said 11 were dead in Albania’s Dibra and Librazhd districts on the other side of the mountains which form the border between the two countries. The Albanian news agency also reported 134 injured and more than 2400 dwellings destroyed.
