Huks Kill Eight
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)
MANILA, December 1.
Huk guerrillas claimed their heaviest toll so far this year when they massacred six Philippine soldiers and two civilians yesterday. The victims were ambused by about 20 Huks on the fringes of Candaba swamps, 70 miles north of Manila. The Government sent 2000 troops into the area this morning in what was described as a “massive punitive operation” against the Communist terrorists.
In yesterday’s attack, the Huks struck from ambush along an isolated road as the six Army men and two civilians were travelling in a utility vehicle with a pay-roll for troops in the provinces.
