Five works were purchased and added to the permanent collection of the Canterbury Society of Arts during the year, the president (Mr S. E. Mair) said in bis annual report He said that by purchasing paintings and sculptures the society was forming a collection which was becoming a valuable history of New Zealand art. The works purchased were a small ink study by M. T. Woollaston, an untitled abstract by Philip Trusttum, “Brown and Black Abstract” by Julian Royds, “Abacus V” by John Coley, a landscape by Nugent Welch, and “Broom Landscape” by J. Nairn.
