RETURN TO FAVOUR

Minister In Peking (N.Z. Pres> Aten.—Copyright) TOKYO. Nov. 29. The Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr Chen Yi, has been returned to favour, according to indications from the official New China News Agency. The agency, in a broadcast monitored in Tokyo said: “Vice-Premier Chen Yi today (Monday) received the delegation of the Japanese committee of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Council led by Takeshi Hayashi.” Mr Chen had been under heavy attack since last spring by Red Guards, who were reported to have humiliated him by forcing him to attend public meetings for self- criticism, a form of public disgrace. His last official activity as Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister was reported by Chiriese news media on August 18, when he attended a banquet held for the Cambodian Foreign Minister.
