Plans For Trip To Australia

Cardinal Garrison, which was second to Good Chase in the New Zealand Derby Stakes at Addington Raceway on November 20, is unlikely to do much more racing in New Zealand this season. Cardinal Garrison will contest the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Ashburton on Boxing Day and then the Great Northern Derby Stakes at Auckland a few days later. After that, his trainer, C. McDonald, intends taking him to Australia where he will contest restricted age events, with the $BOOO New South Wales Pacing Derby as his main mission. If suitable arrangements can be made, Cardinal Garrison will have a similar campaign to that of Tactile, which gained Derby wins in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney in 1963. Cardinal Garrison, a handsome gelding by Garrison Hanover from Roschana, by U. Scott, is raced by Mrs R. C. Nelmes, of Auckland, and Mr P. G. Triggs, of Christchurch. He raced in New South Wales last autumn, before returning to New Zealand for a win at Hutt Park in April and placings in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes and New Zealand Sapling Stakes.
