At his last start, Empire King easily beat a strong field of sprinters in the Members’ Handicap on the last day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s New Zealand Cup meeting. If Empire King does not start on Saturday, Dowling will ride the light-weight candidate, Mighty Peak. General Boy, another member of Dowling’s team, is to miss his engagement in the Wood Memorial Handicap, the hack sprint. The Avocat General colt, which has been consistently placed in his recent racing, suffered a slight injury in a barrier practice.
