Electrical Advice

Electrical equipment had done more to free women from backbreaking toil than any other medium in history and the Electrical Association for Women was in a strong position to give unbiased help to those in need of advice, the president (Mrs G. M. Samson) said at the annual meeting.

There are many opportunities for service, especially as we have no commercial affiliations but are concerned only with helping the housewife in this field, said Mrs Sampson. “So far we have catered well for our own association and our large number of static members has proved we have maintained an interesting programme and a friendly atmosphere. Now we should consider what we can give to the community in the way of knowledge and experience.

“The design of electrical equipment and the planning of the use of electricity in the home is of enormous importance, most especially to the aged and the handicapped, and I would like to see a group formed of members who are willing to study this and submit a report. The Christchurch association has been approached by a publications firm with an offer to print a free magazine for our association. This was to comprise electrical news and views for women, would be produced monthly, and would depend upon advertising to make it an economic proposition. It is hoped the first issue may be possible early in 1968 when most firms budget their advertising for the year. Officers elected at the meeting are:—President, Mrs E. M. Samson; committee, Misses A. Brudnell, D. W. Hill-Holmes, Mesdames N. Anders, J. Innes, R. R. Mathie, N. E. Miles, J. Parsons, G. Pistor, O. Rodderick, Q. Sheridan, N. A Smith, N. N. Stockbridge.
