Clay Beaten— By Computer
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter —Copyright) MIAMI BEACH. Cassius Clay is no longer “the greatest”, according to a giant computer. It decided that last night when it ousted the “Louisville Lip” from the alltime heavy-weight boxing championship—a contest designed to find who was the greatest heavyweight champion. The computer gave a points victory to Jim Jeffries, who now goes into the semi-finals with Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. Before the “fight”. Clay commented scathingly on heavy-weights like Louis. “They fought like washwomen,” he said. “They had no class, no footwork. no speed, no colour, no timing, no rhythm. They swung from the floor. ... 1 do more work, I cover more ring space. “Those guys just can’t come close to me.” The computer awarded five rounds to Clay, three rounds even and seven rounds to Jeffries.
