Special Load
A boiler built in Hamilton for the Ocean Beach freezing works in Southland will come to the South Island by the Maori on Friday morning, and will probably be the heaviest single load carried since the ship was converted to rollon. The boiler has been made in the Hamilton works of John Thompson (Aust.) Proprietary, Ltd, and weighs 28 tons. The transporter carrying it weighs 12 tons. Special arrangements have had to be made for the journey. The boiler and its transporter will be loaded in Wellington about 2 p.m. tomorrow at high tide and unloaded at Lyttelton about the same time on Friday, again at high tide. This timing is important because of the low clearance between the load and the ferry access way. The boiler will evaporate 22,5001 b of steam an hour at 1501 b a square inch pressure. It is expected to arrive in Bluff on December 5 and to be working three weeks later.
