Primary school children who this week while going to and from school have been able to enjoy paddling In cool, elean water at the corner of Kens and Woodham Roads will learn with regret that the flood will disappear in the next day or two. Parents of those children who paddle without removing shoes and socks will see the departure of the surface water with no regrets at all. The water is coming from a new artesian bore which the City Council

has put down at the pumping station on the north-east corner of the intersection. The bore is down 400 ft and is giving a natural flow of 1000 gallons a minute. The City Council water engineer (Mr C. W. Batterbury) said yesterday that the water from the new bore could not be joined up to the mains until the flow had lost the detritus caused by sinking the bore. It was expected that the water would.be clear enough to be piped through the Alters and into the water supply in a day or two.

The water Is flowing through a large pipe laid along the pumping station site and leading into Kerrs Road. “We were afraid to put all the water down the one drain as the weight of it might affect the stability of the drain; we have spread the water over several drains,” said Mr Batterbury. “The surface water is a nuisance, but we expect that the new bore will give a sufficient supply for many years—perhaps 40 years,” he said.
