Ship Search Suspended

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, Nov. 28. A joint United States and Japanese search for the 10,626-ton United States tanker Cleveland was suspended today, it was announced in Tokyo. The tanker, believed to belong to the Cleveland Transport Shipping Corporation, of New York, radioed yesterday morning that it was sinking off the southern coast of Kyushu, Japan’s main southernmost island, after a fire had broken out in two engine rooms.

United States forces in Japan said that during the two-day air-sea search, United States and Japanese ships and aircraft scoured a 500-square-mile area without finding any evidence of a ship sinking or of survivors.
