S.P.C.A.
Sir, —My beagle pup bitch and sheepdog pup went missing on Labour Day evening. Search was of no avail and we rang the police on Wednesday morning. Later that same
morning we learned that they could / possibly be at the S.P.C.A. To our horror, on ringing the S-.P.C.A., we were informed the beagle pup, only 4f months old and bought for breeding, had been spayed; in other words, a valuable dog ruined. Why were the S.P.C.A. in such a hurry to spay the pup? What legal right have they to do this within 24 hours of the animal being brought to them? Councils impound stray animals for a week and also advertise their whereabouts. Are they a law unto themselves? Incidentally, we advertised in both daily papers.—Yours, etc..
BITCHY. October 29, 1967. [The S.P.C.A. was Invited to comment on this letter. No reply has been received.]
