(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, November 16. New Zealand was losing out badly because of shear damage to sheep pelts, said Mr I. Harkness, works superintendent of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Cooperative, at Horotiu. “Tanners claim that 60 per cent of second grade pelts are graded such because of shear damage. They say that pelts free from this damage would now net $1 to $1.20 more a dozen. “The loss to New Zealand was conservatively placed at $500,000 by Godfrey Bowen in his publication ‘Accent on Speed’,’’ Mr Harkness said.
