ADDINGTON INQUIRIES
Inquiries into the breaking of Doctor Barry and Chequer Board during the running of the New Zealand Cup yesterday revealed that both incidents were accidental. It was found that Doctor Barry was pulling hard and moving out when he touched the wheel of Happy Ending’s sulky and broke with about three and a half furlongs to go Chequer Board broke about four and a half furlongs from home when he touched the whe-1 of Disband’s sulky. At the t'r* ■ Spry and Allakasam were improving their positions and th.s contributed to the incident. After the Empire Handicap, an inquiry was held in to the breaking of Goldwater driven by A. J. Bourne, which interfered with Chaman and a number of other runners. After hearing evidence from Bourne and B. G. Nyhan, the driver of Proudly, it was found that Proudly, after taking the lead, eased up quickly causing Goldwater to break. It was decided to suspend Nyhan’s horseman’s licence un til November 14 inclusive. An inquiry was held into the failure of Harbour Light to take any part in the Worthy Queen Handicap. Harbour Light was turned the wrong way for some seconds before the starter released the field. The stewards heard from the starter. Mr R Carter, and M. Holmes, who drove the mare. No further action waa taken.
