COST OF Fill
Withholding Alleged (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Nov. 6. The Government was show- 1 ing “contempt” in its refusal ; to reveal the total cost of the ■ Fill jet bomber, Senator D. i M. Devitt (A.L.P., Tasmania), said today.
Senator Devitt claimed the I Royal Australian Air Force knew the final cost of the Fill programme, but was withholding the information. He asked if $63 million had now been added to the cost of Australia’s order for 24 Fills, bringing the total cost to about $3OO million. Senator Devitt said the cost of the order had increased by more than 200 per cent. He asked whether the Government planned to drop an order for six reconnaissance versions of the jet to keep this price down. The president of the Senate. Sir Alister McMullin, told Senator Devitt to place the question on the notice paper.
