‘Bahamas ’ln Bulk
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 6. A buyer for a large Sydney firm of coin auctioneers will fly home tomorrow with more than 2500 Bahama 2c coins. The buyer (Mr B. J. Williams) said in Wei-' lington today that he had been offered 4000 of the coins in four days of buying in the capital. He flew to New Zealand last Thursday with only one contact to approach, and received all the other offers after advertising. One woman had a store of 8000 of the coins, he said. Mr Williams paid from $1 to $5 for each coin.
depending on condition and quantity, paying in Australian traveller’s cheques.
“These seemed far more acceptable to the sellers than New Zealand currency,” he said.
“Many people asked an Inflated price for the coins and for this reason I bought only 2500 of the 4000 offered. One man with 100 coins wanted $250 each, and most people wanted from $35 to $50.”
The buyer added that his firm planned to use the coins as “a gimmick” in Sydney, giving one away with each large coin order.
