Slip Delays Rail-Cars
The rail-cars between Christchurch and Ross were delayed for about an hour yesterday after a slip occurred on the line at Deception Point, a renowned trouble spot between Otira and Aikens. The normal change of drivers and guards is made at Arthur’s Pass, but because of the slip, which brought down a large rock on the line, the rail-car from Christchurch travelled through to Otira while the east-bound unit was held at Aikens. The rail-car to Christchurch did not arrive until 4.49 p.m. instead of the scheduled 3.40 p.m.
