TRANSPORT COMPANY
Aim To Handle Unit Shipping A public company, with interests throughout New Zealand, has been formed to cope with containerised or unitised shipping. The shareholders are either carrying companies, local carriers, or customs agents and depots have been established in the main centres. Because of its size, Auckland has three i depots. The chairman of directors of the company is Mr L. V. Etwell, managing director of the Central Carrying Company, Ltd, Christchurch. The other directors are Messrs W. Etwell, a director of Dominion Storage and Warehousing Company, Ltd, Christchurch: V. W. Sando, managing director, R. M. Griffith and Company, Ltd, Wellington: W. H. Allardyce, managing director W. H. Allardyce and Company, Ltd. Petone: and J. L. King, director of King Brothers, Papakura Main Task The company, which has a ■ capital of $60,000. will mainly act as consolidators in shipping cargo by the Union Steam Ship Company’s roll-on, roll-off ferry. The same service will operate when the trans-Tasman services begin next year. About 101 carrying and custom agency firms have indicated their interest in the company, including 20 in Christchurch.
