‘Favourable Reply’ (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A New Zealand team of 10 athletes was likely to compete in the Australian amateur championships at Sydney in March, said the chairman of the New Zealand Amateur Athletics Association (Mr C. Blazey) yesterday. A request to Australia to allow New Zealanders to compete had drawn “a favourable reply,” which would be tabled at a meeting of the N.Z.A.A.A. tonight. With 1968 an Olympic year the reply has special significance. The Australian championships are soon after their counterpart here, so New Zealanders competing there would be in top condition. New Zealand athletics administrators, however, regard the reply as representing a move towards regular competition between the countries.
