DISTRICT TRUST
Proposal By Paparua If there is enough support from ratepayers, the Paparua ! County Council will sponsor a local bill to give it power to create a licensing trust lover the whole county. i This decision was reached by the council last night at the suggestion of the chairman (Mr D. H. Warren). "An elected district trust would ultimately assume responsibility for the control and operation of hotels and taverns in the county.” said Mr Warren. In September, the council decided to ask rural ratepayers for their views on trust control. Last night, it was agreed to send the questionnaire to all county ratepayers. Mr Warren and Crs. H. W. Bennett and L. P. Manion were authorised to discuss the scheme with the district members of Parliament, Messrs M. A. Connelly and C. C. A. McLachlan. “This is quite new and won’t go through easily,” said the Clerk (Mr A. Kelly). Cr Bennett said he would seek the views of the Hornby Licensing Trust, which could help the council.
