Protest Stops Aden Battle

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ADEN, November 6. Aden trouble spots spent a third successive night under curfew after a cease-fire between the rival nationalist groups who have been fighting bloody gun battles every day since Friday.

South Arabia’s Federal Forces announced the ceasefire agreement late last night after 2000 Arabs, screaming for an end to the fighting, marched into areas where Nationalists were using mortars, grenades and automatic weapons against each other. The firing died down as the demonstrators including elderly women, women and children—walked into the streets of Sheikh Otham, the Army Command said. The three days of violence in the Sheikh Othman, Mansoura and Little Aden areas cost the lives of about 60 Arabs and left hundreds injured.

(F.L.O.S.Y’.) on sharing power when Britain gives South Arabia independence later this month. The cable accused F.L.0.S.Y. of renewing the fighting earlier in the day and said this indicated that it was not adhering to any decision or agreement. Yesterday’s trouble flared amidst cease-fire appeals by leaders of the two groups over Cairo Radio. The Federal Army which has given the groups until early tomorrow to remove all arms from Sheikh Otham, Mansoura and other troublespots—also made continuous cease-fire appeals. The fighting first broke out on Friday morning, only hours after Britain announced that it was bringing forward the independence date from January 9 to later this month.

During yesterday’s fighting the National Liberation Front (N.L.F.) cabled its leaders in Cairo asking them to stop talks with the rival Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen
