TYPHOON DISASTER
200 Feared Drowned (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright! MANILA, Nov. 6. More than 200 passengers were believed to have drowned on Saturday in central Philippines waters when their vessel sank in rough seas churned up by Typhoon Emma, press reports said today. Dispatches from the central Philippines city of Cebu said that about 20 people had survived the tragedy, which occurred between the islands of Romblon and Panay. The ship was identified as the 300-ton Mindoro, an interisland vessel.
The dispatches said the survivors were in a state of shock and suffering from extreme exposure. All the passengers were believed to be Filipinos. The police said the vessel sank at the height of the typhoon, whose winds of 125 rn.p.h. ripped across the central Philippines and southern Luzon—the -ountry's main island—leaving behind a trail of destruction.
